One of the goals of Rebuilding Democracy has been the promotion of viewpoint diversity. At the same time, sermons from the pulpit have long advanced moral causes in our democracy. This format, the sermon from the pulpit, can also be polarizing and divisive due to its mono-directional nature. Pulpit and the Pew is an experiment that encourages sermonic leadership while inviting congregational response. Our clergy will teach during services on how Jewish texts and tradition apply to public issues and congregants will be invited after the oneg to return to the sanctuary for a conversation.
