Social Action

The Social Action Committee enriches the Jewish Experience by sponsoring social action activities, informing the community about social issues and celebrating our collective commitment to social action.

In partnership with Reston Interfaith and other organizations, NVHC members take action in the spirit of Tikkun Olam to make the world more habitable and compassionate for all people. We have:

  • Prepared meals for the Embry Rucker homeless shelter and Fairfax County hypothermia shelter
  • Stocked the shelves of Reston's emergency food pantry
  • Brought cheer to residents of local retirement homes
  • Raised awareness about the genocide in Darfur
  • Sponsored blood drives
  • Promoted action for a cleaner environment

Through the Social Action Committee's on-line newsletter, we explore social issues of interest to the community and connect social action with Jewish practices and beliefs. Its stories seek to bring greater meaning to our community's Jewish social action experience.
